The black cat reads voraciously, leaping from book to book, seeking always to lose herself in the pages.... What to read next? What to choose from the piles beside the chairs? Holidays measured by the days spent reading, evenings saved from the wasteland of television by stories spun in the imagination.

Unconscious Mutterings
Friday Fill-ins
1. It's always nice when its Friday!
2. I like to hear the kettle boiling.
3. Positive energy; negative feedback.
4. This is too hard tonight......
5. What I heard doesn't bear repeating.
6. Often, I search for the meaning in what I hear.
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to staying inside where its warm, tomorrow my plans include finishing the weeding and Sunday, I want to finish my reports!

Friday Fill-ins
I told you I wasn't in the mood for a photograph. |
1. I knew it was love when I didn't care where the toothpaste tube was squeezed!
2. My heart can be broken but you always make me smile.
3. A dog is no substitute for a grumpy cat.
4. My, how you have advanced your cause.
5. Can you see where I'm coming from?
6. And the answer is probably "No".
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to doing absolutely nothing, tomorrow my plans include buying a birthday present and Sunday, I want to eat pancakes for breakfast!

Electra's Blog Obligation mantra
Since I have been missing in action for quite a while it seems, this leapt off Electra's blog today. I hope she doesn't mind that I've passed it on.........
-because you shouldn't have to look at your blog like it is a treadmill.
-because it's okay to just say what you have to say. If that makes for a long post, fine. short post, fine. Frequent post, fine. Infrequent post, fine.
-because it's okay not always to be enthralled with the sound of your own typing.
-because sometimes less is more.
-because only blogging when you feel truly inspired keeps up the integrity of your blog.
-because they are probably not going to inscribe your stats, link and comments numbers on your tombstone.
-because for most of us blogging is just a hobby. A way to express yourself and connect with others. You should not have to apologize for lapses in posts. Just take a step back and enjoy life, not everything you do has to be "bloggable".
-because if you blog without obligation you will naturally keep your blog around longer, because it won't be a chore. Plus just think you will be doing your part to eradicate post pollution. One post at a time...
REPEAT AFTER ME: I will not apologize for not posting in awhile.

Helping weed, or not......... |
Better late than never......
1. These three words describe my significant other (or dog, cat, baby, grandchild, best friend!): black, furry, snoring!
2. But he's a delight!
3. Oh, how I adore days with nothing to do but read.
4. Even the grumpiest person bends a little if one takes time to be friendly.
5. Inevitably, I get to the last page in the book.
6. My friend Liz is someone who never ceased to encourage me.
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to dinner with friends, tomorrow my plans include cleaning out a cupboard or two and Sunday, I want to get to the plant nursery and replace a tree or two!

Unconscious Mutterings
Free association is described as a "psychonanalytic procedure in which a person is encouraged to give free rein to his or her thoughts and feelings, verbalizing whatever comes into the mind without monitoring its content." Over time, this technique is supposed to help bring forth repressed thoughts and feelings that the person can then work through to gain a better sense of self.
That's an admirable goal, but for the purposes of this excercise, we're just hoping to have a little fun with the technique. Each week I'll post ten words to which you can respond to with the first thing that comes to mind.
I say ... and you think ... ?
- Quit :: abandon
- Solace :: quiet
- Suggest :: an idea
- Meteor :: shoot
- Zombies :: Simon
- Birds :: eagles
- Canceled :: ended
- Compatible :: friendly
- Alarmed :: by nothing
- Word game :: challenge
